How buying a gun in Cody works
Pick an FFL dealer near you that accepts shipped transfers and name it at checkout. We confirm their license and ship the firearm to them. Ammunition, optics and parts ship straight to your door where Wyoming law allows.
Wyoming adds nothing to the federal process: no purchase permit, no registration and no waiting period. At the dealer you complete ATF Form 4473 and the NICS check runs while you wait. Dealers transfer rifles such as a Winchester 1894 or Henry .30-30 at 18 and any revolver at 21. Bring a current photo ID with your address. Ammunition, holsters and cartridge belts ship to your door.

Carrying a gun in Park County
Wyoming allows concealed carry without a permit for adults 21 and older who may lawfully possess a firearm, and open carry of a holstered single action is legal. The optional concealed firearm permit, useful when you travel, is issued by the Division of Criminal Investigation of the Attorney General's office, with applications taken by the Park County Sheriff. Schools, courts, government meetings and posted places stay off limits; check the current statute before you travel with a revolver.
Hunting near Cody
Wyoming Game and Fish sets deer, elk and pronghorn seasons by hunt area, and most nonresident and many resident licenses come through the spring draw. Rifle seasons for deer commonly run in October and November, with dates that differ from one hunt area to the next. Big game must be taken with a centerfire cartridge that meets the state's minimum caliber and energy rules, which the .30-30 and .45-70 meet. Read the current Wyoming Game and Fish regulations for your hunt area.
Cody sits between the Absaroka front and the Bighorn Basin, with deer, elk and pronghorn hunt areas on the Shoshone National Forest and BLM ground. Most licenses come through the Wyoming draw.
Lever guns and single actions are part of daily life here, from ranch rifles behind truck seats to the summer gunfight shows on Sheridan Avenue. The Shoshone National Forest runs right to the edge of town.
