Western style with modern details is how Mossberg describes the 464 SPX. It is a lever action rifle in .30-30 Winchester, with a 16 inch barrel, a six round capacity, and a black finish. Listed weight is 7.3 pounds.

The maker notes a precision-machined receiver, a blued finish barrel, and a walnut stock and forend with checkering. A top tang safety, a hammer block, and a lever safety are included. The receiver is drilled and tapped for a Weaver-style base, so a scope is easy to add.

The .30-30 is a classic deer round for the brush. A 16 inch barrel makes the rifle short and handy in a truck. At under four hundred dollars, it is an affordable way into lever guns. Take your time on the first few cycles of the action and learn how it feels in your hands.

No firearm goes to a front door. Pick your local FFL dealer when you order, and finish the paperwork and background check with them. If a detail matters to your decision, send a question first and compare the answer with the photos.
