How buying a gun in Flagstaff works
Pick an FFL dealer near you that accepts shipped transfers and name it at checkout. We confirm their license and ship the firearm to them. Ammunition, optics and parts ship straight to your door where Arizona law allows.
Arizona has no purchase permit, no registration and no waiting period. At the dealer you fill out ATF Form 4473 and the sale goes through the federal NICS check, 18 for a rifle and 21 for a revolver. Holders of an Arizona CCW permit can usually skip the separate check. Bring a current photo ID with your home address. The firearm ships to the Arizona dealer you choose; ammunition and leather ship to the door.

Carrying a gun in Coconino County
Arizona has allowed permitless concealed carry since 2010 for adults 21 and older who may legally own a firearm, and open carry of a holstered revolver is common. The optional Arizona CCW permit is issued by the Arizona Department of Public Safety, not by Coconino County. It helps in other states and at the dealer counter. Private property owners and some public buildings may ban weapons, so read the posted signs.
Hunting near Flagstaff
Arizona deer hunting runs mostly on a draw. General rifle hunts for mule deer and Coues whitetail are spread from October into December, with each Game Management Unit's dates and permit numbers in the 2026-27 Arizona Hunting Regulations. Over-the-counter archery deer hunts run in late summer and winter in many units. Centerfire rifles, handguns, muzzleloaders and archery gear are legal on the right hunt.
Flagstaff sits in the Coconino National Forest, with elk and mule deer in the surrounding game management units. Most rifle tags are drawn.
Elk hunters fill Flagstaff every fall, and the Northern Arizona Shooting Range east of town is on national forest land. A lever gun fits the pines and the short shots on the forest edge.
