How buying a gun in Fort Smith works
Pick an FFL dealer near you that accepts shipped transfers and name it at checkout. We confirm their license and ship the firearm to them. Ammunition, optics and parts ship straight to your door where Arkansas law allows.
Arkansas has no purchase permit, no registration and no waiting period. The dealer runs the federal NICS check when you complete ATF Form 4473: 18 for a rifle and 21 for a revolver. Bring a photo ID with your current address. Your firearm ships to the Arkansas dealer you name at checkout; ammunition and holsters ship to your door.

Carrying a gun in Sebastian County
Arkansas law, clarified in 2021, allows adults who are not prohibited to carry a handgun openly or concealed without a license. Courthouses, schools, polling places and posted property stay off limits. The concealed handgun carry license and enhanced license are issued by the Arkansas State Police, not the Sebastian County Sheriff, and add reciprocity and access to some posted places.
Hunting near Fort Smith
The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission divides the state into numbered deer zones. Modern gun season opens on the second Saturday in November, with muzzleloader seasons in October and December and archery from late September. Centerfire rifles, shotguns, muzzleloaders and handguns are legal, and bag limits differ by zone. Feral hogs may be taken on private land year-round with permission; public land rules are tighter. Check the current AGFC guidebook.
Fort Smith lies between the Ozark and Ouachita national forests, both with public hunting and unmanned shooting ranges. Feral hogs are common in the river bottoms on private land.
The Ouachita and Ozark national forests both run ranges within an hour, at Brushy Hollow and Buck Ridge. Deer, hogs and turkey use the bottoms along the Arkansas and Poteau rivers.
