Heavy iron from the percussion era is what you get with this Walker Dragoon from Cimarron. It is a .44 caliber black powder revolver with a 9-inch barrel, a six-round cylinder, and walnut grips that fit the frame.

Dragoon revolvers were designed for mounted soldiers and settlers who needed serious firepower in a single-action package. Today they appeal to black powder shooters and reenactors who enjoy the look and sound of the era. Loading is a patient process: powder, ball, and cap in each chamber, then a careful seating of each ball.

Because it is a replica percussion revolver, rules can vary from those for modern cartridge guns, so check with your dealer on how your state treats it. On the range, it delivers a satisfying boom and a cloud of smoke, and it shoots with a push instead of a snap.

After shooting, clean it thoroughly with warm water and oil, since black powder residue attracts rust. Keep the nipples clear. It ships to your FFL dealer, and the background check is completed there before you take it home.
