Strong enough for hot loads and gentle enough for a morning of cowboy action, the Ruger Vaquero is a single-action revolver built on a heavy frame. This one is chambered in .45 Colt, with a 5.5 inch barrel, a black finish, and wood grips.

Six rounds are enough for a stage, and the longer barrel gives a steadier sight picture. A Vaquero is made to take real use. Ranch hands carry them on the belt for snakes and varmints, and competitors run them in match after match.

Pair it with a lever rifle in the same caliber and you have one cartridge for both guns. Expect to practice the single-action routine, since cocking the hammer for each shot takes some getting used to. Once you do, it is a pleasure.
