The gun that won the West earned the title, and Winchester still builds a version of it. The Model 1873 Deluxe Sporting is a lever-action rifle in the style of the original, with upgraded wood and finish that make it a step above the standard grade.

The 1873 was the classic pistol-caliber lever gun, meant to match the revolvers carried on the same belt. Today it is a favorite in cowboy-action matches, where speed and smoothness count. A Deluxe Sporting model typically means better walnut, nicer checkering and a handsome look. Fresh ammunition from a reliable maker makes a real difference in how smoothly any lever gun or single-action revolver runs.

Shooters pick this rifle for several reasons. It is a collectible-quality piece that still works as a rifle. It is a good fit for deer in the brush at short range if chambered right. It is a showpiece for a den, and it is a rifle that makes you want to go outside and shoot.

It is sold new, with Winchester's name on the receiver. The rifle ships to your local FFL dealer, who handles the background check before you pick it up.
