The Winchester 1892 is a small, slick lever action, and this Short model leans into that. It is chambered in .45 Colt, with a 20 inch barrel, a ten-round tube, blued steel and walnut furniture.

A carbine that fires the same cartridge as a Peacemaker revolver makes sense for cowboy-action matches, ranch work and deer hunting at modest ranges. The .45 Colt has enough bullet weight for whitetail in the brush, and the lever gun's quick handling suits the thickets.

The 1892 action is light and quick, with a short throw on the lever. Compared with bigger-framed rifles, it is easy to carry and easy to shoulder. The Short designation points to a compact build, ideal for a truck, tractor or horse. Blued steel and walnut mean it looks the part.

Ten rounds are plenty for a stage, and the long loading gate makes it simple to top up. If you want a trim carbine that shoots a classic round, this is a good one. The rifle ships to your FFL dealer, where the background check is completed.
