Big timber, big game, big cartridge. The Uberti 1886 Sporting is a reproduction of the famous big-bore Winchester lever rifle, chambered in .45-70 Government, with a 25.5 inch octagon barrel and an eight-round magazine.

The .45-70 has been around since the days of black powder, and it still works. Heavy bullets at moderate speed make it a favorite for deer, hogs and bear at woods ranges. A long octagon barrel gives you sight radius and a smooth, steady swing. Case hardened color on the receiver and walnut furniture round out a rifle that looks like it belongs in a museum and shoots like it was made for the field.

The 1886 action is a strong design, built to handle serious pressures. That is why it was the choice of big-game hunters in the past, and why replicas like this one remain popular. At this length it is not a brush carbine, so plan on a bit more weight and a slower swing than a short rifle.

If you want a long-range-lever rifle with real presence, this is a fine pick. It ships to your FFL dealer for the background check.
