Uberti has been making replicas of the old Winchester lever guns for a long time, and the 1873 Special Sporting is a good example. Case-hardened color on the receiver sits against blued steel, and the rifle is chambered in .45 Colt for use with the same ammunition as many single-action revolvers.

A matching rifle and revolver is a real convenience when you shoot cowboy action. One cartridge, one box of ammunition, and a pair of guns that handle the same. For hunters, the .45 Colt can take deer and hogs at moderate range with the right bullet, and it keeps recoil low enough to let you stay on target.

The Special Sporting name hints at the better wood and finish it gets. It feels slim and balanced, and the lever works with the quick, light touch the 1873 is known for.

Case colors are made by heat, and they like to be kept dry. Wipe fingerprints, use a little oil, and avoid long storage in a soft case. The rifle ships to your FFL dealer, where the background check is done.
