At under five hundred dollars, a lever action rimfire that holds fifteen rounds is a bargain. The Rossi Rio Bravo is chambered in .22 LR, has an 18 inch barrel, and comes with a blued finish and wood stock. It is a no-frills rifle for pest control, small game and plinking.

An 18 inch barrel keeps the rifle short enough to carry easily and long enough to give good accuracy. Fifteen rounds give you enough to shoot a bunch of targets or work through a squirrel patch. The lever makes follow-up shots quick and fun.

New shooters like the Rio Bravo because it feels like a cowboy rifle. It is simple to understand and operate. If you have kids who want to learn, start with this one.

Wood and blued steel never go out of style. Wipe the rifle with oil after wet days and it should last a lifetime of casual use.

For a ranch or farm, it is the sort of rifle that sits by the door and gets used for a hundred small jobs.
