Come and Take It is the Texas flag slogan, and Heritage puts it on this black Rancher, a .22 LR revolver rifle with a 16.1-inch barrel and a shoulder stock. Six rounds ride in the cylinder.

The stock and long barrel give a steadier hold than a pistol, which helps new shooters learn sight alignment. The sights are far apart, so groups tighten up. Recoil is practically absent, and .22 LR ammunition is cheap, which makes it easy to practice.

It also makes a good conversation piece at the range. People walk over to see what it is, and a short demonstration of the single-action routine is part of the fun. At the ranch, it handles small pests at close range, though the .22 cartridge has real limits.

Rules on stocked revolvers differ by state, so check yours before ordering. Wipe the black finish after use, put a drop of oil on moving parts, and carry with the hammer on an empty chamber. The Rancher ships to your FFL dealer, and the background check is completed there.
