Fast, flat, and light on the shoulder, the .17 HMR is the cartridge to choose when a .22 LR will not reach far enough. Henry's Silverboy lever gun chambers it with a 20-inch octagon barrel, blued steel, and a walnut stock, with a twelve-round magazine under the barrel.
Varmint shooters know the .17 HMR as a flat trajectory round for prairie dogs, ground squirrels, and coyote-sized pests out to a couple hundred yards. It is a good match for the Silverboy's smooth action, which cycles quickly for follow-up shots. The octagon barrel gives the rifle a handsome, old-fashioned look.
The rifle is light and balanced, so a day carrying it around fields does not wear you out. Recoil is almost nonexistent, and the report is sharp but not too loud. Ammunition costs more than .22 LR but remains moderate compared with centerfire.
Wipe it down after use, oil the action, and keep the magazine tube clean. A scope fits well for longer shots. It ships to your FFL dealer, where the background check is completed.
