Polished brass gives the Big Boy a bright, golden face. Henry makes this one in .357 Magnum with a 20-inch barrel and a side gate, and the brass receiver is hardened to stand up to years of lever work.

The side gate allows loading without opening the action, so topping off the magazine takes seconds. The 20-inch barrel gives the rifle a steady feel and a bit of extra speed from the .357, and the straight handle helps it point naturally. With .38 Special loads, it is a soft-shooting gun for a long afternoon.

Out on the ranch, it works for coyotes and hogs at moderate distance, and a revolver in the same cartridge makes a nice pair. At cowboy action matches, the brass receiver draws appreciative looks and the lever runs smoothly.

Brass gains a patina with use, and many owners like that. A soft cloth and a little polish will keep it bright if that is your preference. Oil the action lightly and wipe the barrel after wet days. The rifle ships to your FFL dealer, and the background check takes place there before you take it home.
